Mundaka is a Basque Country town and municipality located in the province of Biscay.
On the coast, Mundaka, is a working port and is internationally renowned for its surfing scene.
The port is in the centre point of the town, from there, the old part of the town grew.
All the houses are medieval with fishermen's houses, always looking out to sea.
The port has many small boats.
Mundaka is well renowned world wide for its quality of surf. Huge swells roll in from the Bay of Biscay and slam into the rocky coastline of the Basque Countryside. The estuary at Mundaka has created a perfect sandbar which forms hollow...
Heading east along the coast road from Mundaka, you will find this lovely restaurant,
which is situated on a beautiful little surfers beach.
It is a fair sized stone restaurant/bar, with one wall of glass looking out onto the beach with a fantastic view, it is a great spot for a nice relaxing lunch, trying a few delicious pintxos at the bar, or having a more leisurely meal in the evening.
There is a very good menu del dia for €20, which consists of 2 starters, 2 mains, dessert, bread and wine.
Estofado de chorizo y frijoles (chorizo & bean stew)

This place is a un-remarkable, easy to miss little restaurant, in little known Tolosa, 28 km inland from San Sebastián.
Once you find it and walk in you will think you are in the wrong place, You will see an area containing several fridges and a load of crates and are likely to turn around and walk out again until you are greeted warmly and seated in the old fashioned dining room that doesn't look like it's changed much in a century.
The steaks are cooked to order here, in front of every diner.
Topped with a extremely large dose of coarse salt, which is then scraped off before serving (the steaks are n...

Getaria fishing port.
You can wander down the old streets to the harbour.
Walking past various shops selling their wares.
There are a couple of nice beaches in and around the town.
Set on a crossroads above the harbour, Restaurante Elkano is currently rated as number 30 in the Best fifty restaurants in the world 2019 list.
Not the easiest place to find, this beautiful, rustic, restored stone house, is a couple of km out of town. It has a bar at the entrance on the ground floor and a couple of stunning dining rooms on the first floor.
All the high quality produce is cooked on various charcoal grills by the renowned chef Victor Arguinzoniz who well deserves his one Michelin star. There is no molecular stuff here, just fresh quality food with their unique flavours enhanced from the smoke and grill.

Tucked away in a corner of the bustling plaza nueva in the old town, this little bar was the winner of best pintxos in town for many years for a reason. They are the modern gastronomic type of pintxos.
The top two pictures are from a previous visit.
